Filed by: Pigeon, Turtle

Location: Rural New England

Status: Investigation completed

Situation:

Owner contacted the team asking for an investigation into the property. Provided his account of events and concerns. Owner is 42 year old man, military veteran, and currently working as a construction contractor. Owner is not superstitious, is Christian believing but not active in a church.

House is located in very rural New England township. House was built in 1971. No deaths reported in the house. Property has 16 acres of mostly wooded property, with a large Quonset hut storage garage, a garden shed that was used for a chicken coop. Property has a gravel road making a loop from the driveway to the Quonset hut, around a small gravel pit in the back, and returning to the front yard of the property to the main road. House is a split level 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 bay garage home of unremarkable construction. Neighbors immediately adjacent to the house on either side on the same side of the road.

Chronological Organization of Witness Account

June 2022: Purchase of the House

The Owner bought the house in June 2022 and lived there for approximately 2 years before separating from their ex-wife in May 2024.

Approximately August 2022: Discovery of the Hole in the Gravel Pit

A couple of months after moving in, the Owner and his daughter were at the gravel pit in the back of the property. The daughter pointed out a hole in the ground about the size of a basketball that had not been there before. The Owner had the impression that the soil had caved in rather than being scooped out. They examined it for some time, noting it stood out as unusual.

Fall 2022: Damage to the Daughter's Toy Horse

Around fall of 2022, the daughter's inflatable toy horse (a stuffed horse with a ball inside, large enough for a toddler to ride) was found with cuts all over its body and the eyes cut out and colored black. The Owner was upset, assuming the then 3-year-old daughter had done it with scissors or a knife, though the cuts seemed sophisticated for her age, and there were no child-safe scissors in the house. This was out of character for the daughter, who never defaced other toys in this way.

2022–2024 (During Residency with Ex-Wife): General Strange Events, Daughter's Behavior, and Physical Symptoms

While living in the house with the ex-wife from June 2022 to May 2024, strange events occurred. The daughter exhibited unusual behavior, including recurring nightmares (such as about a horse with no legs and no eyes bouncing outside her window at night, which persisted enough that she still remembers it), terror of sleeping alone, and descriptions of the woods being filled with monsters. Both the witness and daughter experienced worrisome physical symptoms that resolved after leaving. The witness attributed these to stress from the abusive relationship and did not think much of them at the time.

Approximately 2023–2024 (Last Year of Marriage): Barricading Doors and Disassociation

Towards the end of the marriage (the last year or so), the Owner was very disassociated due to the unpleasant and abusive relationship. Owner slept either in the daughter’s room on the floor next to her bed with the bedroom door barricaded from the inside, or in the spare bedroom with the door barricaded to prevent the ex-wife from kicking it in.

May 2024: Separation from Ex-Wife

The Owner separated from their ex-wife in May 2024. They have had a week-on, week-off custody arrangement with their now 6-year-old daughter since then.

May 2024–June 2025 (Ex-Wife's Occupancy): Dead Crow Incident Recounted by Daughter

During the period when the daughter was living at the house with her mother (and the Owner was not home), the daughter reported seeing a dead crow that would scratch at her window. When questioned, she confirmed it was dead because she had seen it lying in the yard for days. It would get up from the yard and scratch at the window during the day. Daughter specifically said it was not at night when she might be dreaming, but during the day. This was recounted by the daughter recently to the witness during his custody period.

November 2024: CPS Involvement Begins

Child Protective Services (CPS) became involved with the daughter in November 2024 due to concerns about her care while with her mother.

January 2025: Daughter's Concussion and Interview About "the Darkness"

In January 2025, the daughter suffered a concussion while in her mother’s care. During an interview with a child advocate for DHHS (the Owner was not present for the interview), the daughter expressed fear of what she called “the Darkness” at the house. The interviewer clarified if this meant nighttime or sleeping alone, but the daughter specified it was “the Darkness” itself. She did not elaborate further.

June 2025: Regaining Possession and Initial Cleaning

The witness regained possession of the house in June 2025 through court proceedings and began cleaning it out for sale. The ex-wife had lived there from May 2024 through June 2025.

Mid-June 2025: Rosary Snaps While Removing Trash

The Owner returned to the home to start trash removal. He had leased a 30 yard dumpster trailer to be dropped off at the driveway of the property. Owner states he went prepared to clean despite the haunted presence - Owner was wearing a rosary under his shirt, opened all the doors in the house and propped them open, and turned on all overhead lights even though it was 9:00am. Owner text his partner when he arrived. After throwing trash from the house into the outside dumpster for about an hour, the rosary's braided wire snapped (not at the clasp) for no apparent reason, with beads falling to the ground. Owner states he threw a bunch of mirrors in the dumpster and when he turned to return for another load, it snapped. Nothing snagged it, and it was worn under the shirt. TheOwner collected the pieces, text his partner, and left immediately.  Total time at property according to texts to his partner: 1 hour 12 minutes.

*Rosary was presented to investigation team during interview. was made of petrified wood beads with a braided steel wire. Braided wire was stretched and broken at the (for person wearing it as the witness did) left side approximately by the left clavicle.

Late June 2025 (Approximately 2 Weeks After Rosary Incident): Dropping Off Key, Black Windows

Approximately 2 weeks later (around the last days of June 2025, at about 11 a.m. on a partially sunny day), the Owner and partner dropped off a key in a lockbox for the heating company while planning to be out of state. As they left the driveway, the garden windows in the living room and dining room appeared black and opaque, preventing visibility inside. This had not been noticed before. The house felt extremely oppressive and menacing, as if something was watching them.

First Week of July 2025: Shadow Creature Sighted While Mowing

In the first week of July 2025, the Owner went to mow the lawn using a riding mower from the garage (without entering the main house). After about an hour, while coming around the back of the Quonset hut near the clothesline, he saw a large shadow between the house and the road, next to spruce trees. Witness states it resembled a four-legged animal like a dog but sized like a tiger or bear, with high sloped shoulders like a feral hog, a black bristly/spiky mane, and a similarly furred tail. No head was visible, as it was down to the ground, as if sniffing. The image was distinct but vanished quickly, leaving a lasting impression on the Owner.

Second Week of July 2025: Cleaning Mold, Lights Dimming, Doors Moving, and Disturbing Phone Call

In the second week of July 2025, the Owner returned around 9:00am to clean mold on the carpet in the main room and inside the empty refrigerator (shelves, drawers, and ice maker had cobwebs of mold, despite no food left and witness stating he had cleaned and bleached it previously). While cleaning the fridge with bleach, Owner states the house lights brightened and dimmed inexplicably (not the bulbs, but the overall lighting), and bedroom doors opened and closed on their own.

“I saw the mold in the fridge and wanted to get that done. I was scrubbing the fridge with bleach and cloth towels, with a garbage bag next to me to throw them in.  So my back was to the kitchen dinning room. As I was cleaning, the lights of the room behind me would darken. Id turn to check and the lights were fine- no flickering or dimming.  I just wanted to get done and out of there. So I kept cleaning, and behind me the room would dim, like something moving and blocking the light.  I just hurried.  Doors in the game room and upstairs bedrooms started slamming.  Wind blows a door shut and it stays latched. This just kept slamming and Id hear the creak of it opening slowly and slam again.”

After about 20 minutes, Owner got a phone call.  Stated his hands were filthy from the mold and he didn’t want to reach into his pocket for the phone. Additionally, he stated he did not want whatever was in the house to listen to his phone call.

The Owner answered outside in the driveway, the call being from his partner’s attorney asking about a payment that did not clear. The Owner recalls a normal conversation, clears up the payment issue, and went back to cleaning.

Upon leaving, Owner text his partner from the car to say he was coming home.  Owner stated the house windows were black, and he felt watched from them.  Stated he avoided looking because he had a strong impression he would see his daughters in the window and that she was upset he was abandoning her.

On arriving to his residence,Owner’s partner told him she had received a call from the lead attorney of the law firm.  The paralegal the Owner spoke to was so disturbed by the call that he went to the lead attorney to voice concern over partner’s safety. Something in the call between the witness and paralegal made the paralegal, and the attorney’s after hearing the paralegal’s account, concerned about her safety and raised concerns about abuse. The Owner has no memory of being rude, is not abusive by nature, and finds this upsetting. His partner says he is not and never has been abusive. The attorney would not elaborate on what the paralegal said or on any details about the phone call.  The firm continued to call to check on partner for a couple of weeks after the incident.

Mid-July 2025: House Listed for Sale, Feedback on Darkness and Smell

After listing the house with a realtor since mid-July 2025, Owner stated every realtor and showing has commented that the house feels dark (despite LED lights and large garden windows) and smells bad. No amount of additional lighting changes this perception.

After Mid-July 2025 (When Switching Realtors): Repeatedly Unlocked Exterior Door

While switching realtors (after mid-July 2025), the exterior door by the kitchen was found unlocked multiple times, despite the Owner locking and checking it. The Owner was the only keyholder; locks were changed when witness took possession of the house in June and again when changing to a new realtor in mid July. The new realtor also reported finding doors unlocked multiple times.

Early August 2025: Overpowering Smell in Basement Stairs with Realtor

In the beginning of August 2025, while with the realtor, the witness noted an overpowering bad smell strongest in the basement stairway, despite thorough cleaning and bleaching. It persists nowhere else, with no apparent source like trapped items in walls.

Non-Chronological or Ongoing Accounts

These accounts lack specific dates or span multiple periods and are organized here at the end:

  • Exhaustion After Visits: Every time the Owner or partner visits the house (e.g., to clean or check), they feel extreme exhaustion upon returning home, beyond normal physical tiredness.

  • Parents' Avoidance: The Owner's parents, who live a few miles away and do not believe in the supernatural, have rarely visited the house (maybe once or twice over the years) without clear reasons, even during the past marriage.

  • Previous Owner's Living Arrangement: The person who lived in the house before the witness did not actually reside inside it; they lived in an RV on the front yard while the house sat empty.

  • Oppressive Presence and Watching Sensation: Owner’s partner reports feeling an oppressive presence, as if listened to or watched, especially in the back areas near the daughter’s bedroom. Both realtors preferred speaking outside rather than inside but did not explain why.

  • Dark and Foreboding Feel in Daughter's Bedroom: The daughter’s former bedroom feels dark and foreboding, with darkness gathering in the back corner, even when empty. During her time there, the daughter repeatedly said she was scared at night because it was dark in her room and she couldn’t get help (initially attributed to the ex-wife's neglect). Both realtors avoided entering the bedrooms during walkthroughs without realizing it.

  • Persistent Bad Smell in House: Beyond the basement stairs, the house has a bad smell noted by realtors, despite cleaning efforts.
